Ruth Dsouza Prabhu
I am an independent journalist and author based in Bangalore, India, with 23 years of experience spanning diverse media platforms. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a Master of Science in Mass Communication, I embarked on my career in television, transitioning seamlessly to the written word.

Today, as a seasoned features journalist, my bylines are on some of the world’s most renowned publications, including The New York Times, Al Jazeera, The National, Nikkei Asia, Whetstone South Asia, Going Places, and Eaten. Domestically, I’ve contributed to top-tier Indian publications like Condé Nast Traveller, Architectural Digest, Travel & Leisure India, Nat Geo Traveller, Mint Lounge, Reader's Digest, Lifestyle Asia, The Hindu, Firstpost, The LagMag, and Paper Planes.

I am also the author and editor of India’s Most Legendary Restaurants, published by Aleph Book Co., which was showcased at the Bangalore Literature Festival and the Orange City Literature Festival in Nagpur in 2024. Additionally, I’ve contributed to the Bloomsbury Handbook of Indian Cuisine and serve on the organising committee of the annual Indian Culinary Agenda initiative in Delhi.

My passion for F&B journalism has allowed me to engage personally with culinary legends such as the iconic trio of MasterChef Australia—Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston, and George Calombaris—alongside luminaries like Marco Pierre White, Gaggan Anand, Garima Arora, Vivek Singh, Hari Nayak, and Sameer Taneja. I am privileged to serve as a jury member for prestigious F&B awards like the Condé Nast Restaurant Awards, NDTV Food Awards and Epicurean Star Awards.
In 2021, my article How the Colonization of India Influenced Global Cuisines, published in Al Jazeera, earned an Honourable Mention for Excellence in Journalism from the International Food Wine Travel Writers Association. I also received the Best Profile of a Brewery award from The North American Guild of Beer Writers in 2022 for my feature on Geist in Bangalore.

Beyond journalism, I specialise in PR and marketing communications, crafting compelling content for clients like Gurgaon-based DLF Ltd., Tamara Leisure Experiences, Mantri Developers, ITC Hotels, Wipro, Mindtree, CREDAI, Skyscanner, and Aster CMI Hospitals among others.
I conduct journalism workshops and have taught at institutions such as the Manipal Institute of Communication, NITTE, NMKRV and Kristu Jayanti College.
